The formula
Acres = (length in feet × width in feet) ÷ 43,560.

Irregular shapes
Most parcels are not rectangles. For an irregular tract, split the shape into rectangles and triangles, find each area, and add them. The area of a triangle is half its base times its height. County parcel maps report an acreage for each parcel, and a survey gives the figure you can rely on.
